Draft Grade — Steelers

Grand theft in slot 123: the Steelers steal Williams and grade out a D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Steelers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Put together, it is a D.
The Walker pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Williams falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
By-the-book stuff, Jaxson Dart at the 37th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick57
Rnd2
Deone Walker
A big swing on Deone Walker at pick No. 57, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick123
Rnd4
Savion Williams
You do not let a wide receiver like Savion Williams reach pick 123 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick156
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
A wild overpay on JJ Pegues in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in Round 6, Pick 9 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick229
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens is a better player than No. 229 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
