Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC FutureB-
The 49ers robbed the room for Brooks. Final grade: B-.

Somebody in pick No. 252 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Tahj Brooks, the No. 199 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Pegues has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Derrick Harmon. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jalon Walker in the 43rd pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick58 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
They robbed the room for Colston Loveland here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Charles Grant in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
No edge and no loss on Dylan Fairchild in the 100th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick113 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander slipping to Round 4, Pick 11 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kobe King
Kobe King slid further than he should have, and No. 138 is lovely value for the linebacker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick147 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
They paid sticker price for Pat Bryant in slot 147, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick160 Rnd5 Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez at Round 5, Pick 22 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick166 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A wild overpay on JJ Pegues in the 166th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
A straight-up fair deal on Isaac TeSlaa at pick 227, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway in the 249th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick252 Rnd7 Tahj Brooks
A running back of that caliber at slot 252 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
