Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesA FutureB
The Packers let Melton fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Max Melton had no business being available in pick 91, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging. Every board in the league had Bertrand lower, and that gap is the story.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Terrace Marshall Jr. pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In slot 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick65 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
Nice patience on Christian Haynes, who had no business lasting to pick 65. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick88 Rnd3 Cole Bishop
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Cole Bishop, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick91 Rnd3 Max Melton
You do not let a cornerback like Max Melton reach Round 3, Pick 28 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick101 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in the 101st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Pick126 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A tidy little value on Cedric Gray in pick No. 126, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick152 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
By-the-book stuff, Mason McCormick at the 152nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169 Rnd5 Beau Brade
Beau Brade at pick 169 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick202 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at Round 6, Pick 27 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick219 Rnd6 Layden Robinson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Layden Robinson at the Round 6 slot is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick222 Rnd7 Ryan Watts
They jumped the gun on Ryan Watts, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick245 Rnd7 Garret Greenfield
The board had Garret Greenfield higher than pick No. 245, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jacob Monk
Steal is underselling it; Jacob Monk at the 255th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
