FutureB-
The Bills cashed the board's mistake on McGlothern: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Dwight McGlothern tumbling to the Bills in slot 198 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Bills indulged a want in Smith while a need in interior defensive lineman and quarterback stayed open. Linebacker was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 28 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
Adisa Isaac
A tidy bit of business in the 60th overall pick, where Adisa Isaac graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick113
Rnd4
Maason Smith
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman and quarterback to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick114
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Nothing to complain about; Braelon Allen went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at the Round 5 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick145
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
They took Roger Rosengarten at par in No. 145, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick159
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
The board had Tommy Eichenberg higher than pick 159, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick162
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in the 162nd pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick184
Rnd6
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 184 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick198
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at the 198th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick202
Rnd6
M.J. Devonshire
They robbed the room for M.J. Devonshire here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick206
Rnd6
Eric Watts
Eric Watts at No. 206 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick246
Rnd7
Brevyn Spann-Ford
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Brevyn Spann-Ford. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
