Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB TradesC FutureC-
The jury is out on the Commanders. For now, C+.

The Brian Ugwu pick is the one that will follow the Commanders into the fall. They took him 162 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.

They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The Tuten value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the 31st pick they get a sticky cover corner, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at the 33rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick61 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
They let Marcus Mbow come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
They read the board right and Jayden Higgins was the payoff at slot 67. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 26: Anthony Belton for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in pick No. 133 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick179 Rnd6 Bhayshul Tuten
A running back of that caliber at pick 179 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick226 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson in Round 7, Pick 10 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
They talked themselves into Collin Oliver at the 251st overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick257 Rnd7 Brian Ugwu
Brian Ugwu at No. 257 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
