Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC FutureB
The Falcons let McMillan fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

Somebody in pick 143 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Falcons sat still while Jalen McMillan, the No. 99 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They are betting Gore Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

With tight end and linebacker unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In No. 15 they get a bendy edge with upside. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean at the 43rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
A reach for Michael Hall Jr. in Round 3, Pick 10; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
The board had cheaper options than Brenden Rice at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick82 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at pick 82 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick109 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Cole Bishop in slot 109 leaves tight end and linebacker for later.
Pick143 Rnd5 Jalen McMillan
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 143rd pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick187 Rnd6 Hunter Nourzad
Taking Hunter Nourzad in pick No. 187 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick197 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 197th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick245 Rnd7 Julian Pearl
Julian Pearl in slot 245 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick255 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
