FutureD
The Steelers drew a line under the quarterback search with Sanders: D+. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Jaylen Reed. He came off 35 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
Value with a capital V on Shedeur Sanders in the Round 1 slot, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick50
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T.J. Sanders at No. 50 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick57
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson slid further than he should have, and slot 57 is lovely value for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick82
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 18 with a little surplus value in Isaiah Bond. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick83
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
A straight-up fair deal on Danny Stutsman at pick 83, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick85
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at pick No. 85 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
The board had Anthony Belton higher than the Round 4 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
A wild overpay on Jaylen Reed in No. 156, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill at pick No. 172 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick223
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in slot 223 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
