Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedA- TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Patriots a B+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Tyler Loop in pick No. 241. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. That Hancock pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In pick No. 4 they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
By-the-book stuff, Tyleik Williams at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at Round 3, Pick 5 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at slot 106 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on O'Donnell Fortune. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
They went early on Jermari Harris in the 217th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick220 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at Round 7, Pick 20 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick238 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 238, where Cam Jackson graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick241 Rnd7 Tyler Loop
They reached a country mile for Tyler Loop at the 241st pick, and the board is aghast. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
