Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB- NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B to prove it.

Everything else got attention, and interior defensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Bears to leave a draft. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

Sorrell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
James Pearce Jr. at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick39 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery at pick No. 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Good price on Tyler Booker in slot 41, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Nothing to complain about; Quinshon Judkins went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148 Rnd5 Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell in Round 5, Pick 10 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick233 Rnd7 LaJohntay Wester
They liked LaJohntay Wester enough to skip the value, taking him in the 233rd pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick240 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
They paid sticker price for Mac McWilliams in the 240th overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
