Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Webb: B-.

The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Clay Webb fell into No. 220. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Ezeiruaku has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In No. 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick No. 38 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jayden Higgins in Round 3, Pick 5. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at pick 106 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick144 Rnd5 Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson is a better player than the 144th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick217 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
They took Phil Mafah at par in the 217th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220 Rnd7 Clay Webb
Somehow Clay Webb was still sitting there in slot 220, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
A premium they did not need to pay, Teddye Buchanan a notch or two before his time. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
