FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Vikings a B. You could see the war room lean forward. Kevin Winston Jr. at Round 5, Pick 1 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Conner reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with safety solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
A tidy bit of business in the 38th pick, where Derrick Harmon graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
A tidy little value on Elijah Arroyo in slot 77, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick97
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
They barely believed it either: Omarr Norman-Lott still on the board at the 97th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106
Rnd4
Savion Williams
They read the board right and Savion Williams was the payoff at No. 106. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 139 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Mello Dotson
Nice patience on Mello Dotson, who had no business lasting to the 144th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick187
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Raheim Sanders at pick 187 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick217
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They went early on Isaac TeSlaa in Round 7, Pick 1, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
They reached into another round for Hayden Conner, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick238
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
