FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-. The Steelers put a flag in the ground for Ricky White III, 22 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Giddens at that price is a win they earned.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the 21st overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick93
Rnd3
Will Howard
Will Howard at Round 3, Pick 29 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123
Rnd4
Billy Bowman Jr.
The board had Billy Bowman Jr. higher than No. 123, and the safety fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick156
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It fills a real need, too.
Pick184
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
They read the board right and DJ Giddens was the payoff at slot 184. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick185
Rnd6
Kyle Williams
Nice patience on Kyle Williams, who had no business lasting to pick No. 185. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195
Rnd6
Ricky White III
Ricky White III at Round 6, Pick 19 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick198
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues is a better player than pick 198 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick229
Rnd7
Alex Mastromanno
Alex Mastromanno at the 229th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
