Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Paul Jr. from sliding. Grade: D-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Chris Paul Jr., the No. 88 name on the board, stolen at pick 161. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

The McCord reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at Round 1, Pick 21 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick52 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders in pick No. 52 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick61 Rnd2 Zy Alexander
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zy Alexander. The roster fit checks out.
Pick80 Rnd3 Tez Johnson
They went early on Tez Johnson in pick 80, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick83 Rnd3 Kyle McCord
A wild overpay on Kyle McCord in the 83rd overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121 Rnd4 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick161 Rnd5 Chris Paul Jr.
They will replay Chris Paul Jr. at slot 161 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick223 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
Taking Ollie Gordon II in the 223rd pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick229 Rnd7 Hunter Wohler
No edge and no loss on Hunter Wohler in pick 229; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in pick No. 245 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
