Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

It is a puzzling start. The Texans had running back, edge rusher and other spots to solve and reached instead for Mike Sainristil, a cornerback, at No. 86. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Reaching for Eichenberg left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. The Sainristil pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in Round 2, Pick 10, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
They let T.J. Tampa come to them and pounced at the 59th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick86 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
They bypassed pressing needs at running back, edge rusher and other spots to take Mike Sainristil, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick123 Rnd4 Christian Jones
Christian Jones in Round 4, Pick 23 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Value said wait; Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 127 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick188 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They liked Joe Milton III enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jalen Coker
No edge and no loss on Jalen Coker in slot 247; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
