Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped Ransaw from sliding. Grade: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Caleb Ransaw had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 20, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick No. 25 they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jaylin Noel
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Noel in No. 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick103
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
They jumped the gun on Anthony Belton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Pick120
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They let Cam Skattebo come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 18. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick167
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
They took Chase Lundt at par in the 167th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick176
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
A tidy little value on Kyle Williams in slot 176, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236
Rnd7
Caleb Ransaw
They will replay Caleb Ransaw at the 236th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick241
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at pick No. 241 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick243
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
Jaylin Smith at No. 243 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
