Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
Roberts should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jaeden Roberts, the No. 83 name on the board, stolen at slot 127. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Mills has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In pick No. 21 they get a three-down second-level presence at fair value.
Pick63 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tate Ratledge in slot 63. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick85 Rnd3 Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at Round 3, Pick 21 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick95 Rnd3 Noah Thomas
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Noah Thomas. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117 Rnd4 Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe at the 117th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at the 127th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149 Rnd5 Zion Nelson
Zion Nelson in pick 149 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick213 Rnd7 Nic Anderson
They did well to land Nic Anderson in No. 213, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
