Draft Grade — Texans
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA FutureA+
The Texans let Blue fall and pounced. Final grade: A-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jaydon Blue had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Fairchild pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Texans clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

In the end it comes back to Tre Harris, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick58 Rnd2 Tre Harris
A slide stopped in No. 58, with Tre Harris worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
They reached a country mile for Dylan Fairchild at pick 79, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
Nice patience on Isaiah Bond, who had no business lasting to slot 89. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Skattebo at the 109th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick158 Rnd5 Anthony Belton
Circle this one: Anthony Belton at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick166 Rnd5 Jared Wilson
They will replay Jared Wilson at pick No. 166 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jaydon Blue
A running back of that caliber at the 236th pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick241 Rnd7 Brant Kuithe
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brant Kuithe. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
