Draft Grade — Texans
Overall A
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA+
The Texans let Lambert-Smith fall into their laps, and walked away with a A.

The rest of the league will want that one back. KeAndre Lambert-Smith tumbling to the Texans in slot 241 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. This is how you run a draft, and the A reflects it.

Hawes has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Texans clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick Analysis
Pick89 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the 89th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick166 Rnd5 Nick Nash
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 166 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick193 Rnd6 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick235 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at No. 235 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick236 Rnd7 Woody Marks
Woody Marks in pick No. 236 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241 Rnd7 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at slot 241 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
