Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Mafah: B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Phil Mafah tumbling to the Texans in Round 7, Pick 35 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
A slide stopped in the 25th pick, with Tyler Warren worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick66 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson slid further than he should have, and the 66th overall pick is lovely value for the running back. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
A straight-up fair deal on Ozzy Trapilo at Round 3, Pick 15, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jack Bech
You do not let a wide receiver like Jack Bech reach slot 89 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick95 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
They paid sticker price for Jared Wilson in pick 95, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick166 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at No. 166 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson in pick No. 236 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick251 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
Circle this one: Phil Mafah at the 251st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
