Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped White III from sliding. Grade: B. Call it larceny. Ricky White III sat on the board until slot 236, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Fidone II pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 25th pick they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in No. 58 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A straight-up fair deal on Ozzy Trapilo at the 79th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick89
Rnd3
Charles Grant
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Charles Grant. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick166
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
Value with a capital V on Bhayshul Tuten in pick 166, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III at slot 236 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick241
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
A reach on Thomas Fidone II in Round 7, Pick 25; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
