The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Edwards: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Donovan Edwards had no business being available in the 236th overall pick, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Wilson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Harold Fannin Jr.
A tidy little value on Harold Fannin Jr. in pick No. 58, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick89
Rnd3
Devin Neal
Devin Neal slipping to slot 89 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
A premium they did not need to pay, Jared Wilson a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at the 127th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick166
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Logan Brown in the 166th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick236
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in No. 236 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick241
Rnd7
Kitan Crawford
They took Kitan Crawford at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
