Draft Grade — Texans

FutureA+
The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Laube: D+. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Texans did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The math is unkind, and the D+ follows.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Laube pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They will need Milton III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick55
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
They let Keon Coleman come to them and pounced at slot 55. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick60
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Somehow Kamari Lassiter was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 28, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick81
Rnd3
Junior Colson
They barely believed it either: Junior Colson still on the board at pick No. 81. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick123
Rnd4
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in No. 127 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick143
Rnd5
Sataoa Laumea
The board had Sataoa Laumea higher than the 143rd pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick188
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
The board had cheaper options than Joe Milton III at No. 188, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick204
Rnd6
Dylan Laube
They will replay Dylan Laube at pick 204 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
They robbed the room for Nathaniel Watson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Taking Frank Gore Jr. in the 248th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
