Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesA FutureC-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Xavier Legette in Round 2, Pick 10.

The Hadden steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick41 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick42 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
They reached into another round for Xavier Legette, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick58 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 26 with a little surplus value in Payton Wilson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Mahogany at pick No. 93, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick188 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
They will replay Kamal Hadden at slot 188 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick247 Rnd7 Matt Lee
They left a pile of value on the table to take Matt Lee this early at the 247th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
