FutureB+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Shough: B+. You could see the war room lean forward. Tyler Shough at pick No. 206 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Every board in the league had Badger lower, and that gap is the story. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In the 30th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end, outstanding value to boot.
Pick58
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
They read the board right and Aireontae Ersery was the payoff at slot 58. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Taking Alfred Collins in the 90th pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Good price on Jared Wilson in Round 4, Pick 7, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
Somehow Jaylin Noel was still sitting there in No. 130, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick166
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick191
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in pick 191 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick206
Rnd6
Tyler Shough
A quarterback of that caliber at pick No. 206 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick228
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
The board had Hayden Conner higher than the 228th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jermari Harris in pick 236. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
They liked Jaylin Smith enough to skip the value, taking him in the 241st overall pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick244
Rnd7
Elijhah Badger
A wild overpay on Elijhah Badger in pick No. 244, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
