Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

The Texans did not so much draft Barryn Sorrell as overpay for him, 125 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They banked enough surplus on Belton to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. It is not that Bowman Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Texans had louder needs to answer first.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
They did well to land Nick Emmanwori in slot 25, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick62 Rnd2 Mason Taylor
They reached into another round for Mason Taylor, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick127 Rnd4 Billy Bowman Jr.
A curious use of No. 127. Running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Billy Bowman Jr. did not.
Pick154 Rnd5 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in pick No. 154 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick164 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Circle this one: Pat Bryant at the 164th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick167 Rnd5 Anthony Belton
They will replay Anthony Belton at pick 167 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at slot 178 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185 Rnd6 Barryn Sorrell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barryn Sorrell this early at the 185th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick243 Rnd7 Chimere Dike
Somehow Chimere Dike was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 25, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
