Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and Cowing: B-.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jacob Cowing, No. 242, roughly 50 picks past where he belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

They will need Eichenberg to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Their trades came out a wash either way.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In the 24th pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Kalen King
Kalen King at the 53rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick95 Rnd3 Tommy Eichenberg
They reached into another round for Tommy Eichenberg, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
They did well to land Jalen McMillan in slot 121, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick124 Rnd4 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
A premium they did not need to pay, Jamon Dumas-Johnson a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Pick174 Rnd5 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick212 Rnd6 DeWayne Carter
DeWayne Carter in pick 212 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick242 Rnd7 Jacob Cowing
They will replay Jacob Cowing at No. 242 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
