Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedB- TradesC- FutureB
The Steelers let Wallace fall and pounced. Final grade: C+.

Somebody in the 256th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Caedan Wallace, the No. 213 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

The Mahogany pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still on the board. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The cost of the Polk reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

If Amarius Mims and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In pick No. 20 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. More want than need.
Pick56 Rnd2 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 56th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick84 Rnd3 Max Melton
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 20: Max Melton for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick98 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Christian Mahogany while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots sat open.
Pick119 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick178 Rnd6 Jordan Travis
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Travis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick195 Rnd6 M.J. Devonshire
A reasonable price with a little left over, M.J. Devonshire in No. 195. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick256 Rnd7 Caedan Wallace
They robbed the room for Caedan Wallace here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
