Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureA
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the C-.

The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in Drew Kendall, taking him 110 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

The Skattebo pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 JT Tuimoloau
In the 25th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyleik Williams in No. 43. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at slot 56 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick62 Rnd2 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at pick 62 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick89 Rnd3 Anthony Belton
A big swing on Anthony Belton at the 89th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
A slide stopped in pick 99, with Mason Taylor worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick107 Rnd4 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Demetrius Knight Jr. at the 107th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick111 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
You do not let a wide receiver like Tez Johnson reach slot 111 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick114 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Malachi Moore adds a safety while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick115 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at Round 4, Pick 14 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick130 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Alexander at No. 130, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick137 Rnd4 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at pick No. 137 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick150 Rnd5 Sam Brown
They talked themselves into Sam Brown at the 150th pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
Taking Cam Skattebo in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick226 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Luke Lachey in pick 226, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick230 Rnd7 Drew Kendall
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drew Kendall in slot 230, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick249 Rnd7 Trey Wedig
They reached a country mile for Trey Wedig at the 249th overall pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255 Rnd7 R.J. Oben
A swing that ignored the value entirely, R.J. Oben well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
