FutureA+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. The Steelers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Robert Spears-Jennings at the 216th pick regardless, 45 picks early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The World pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots still on the board. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thieneman.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick53
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76
Rnd3
Dontay Corleone
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dontay Corleone at the 76th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick85
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
They reached into another round for Harold Perkins Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick99
Rnd3
Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at the 99th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick100
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
No edge and no loss on Nicholas Singleton in Round 3, Pick 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125
Rnd4
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at No. 125 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131
Rnd4
Isaiah World
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Isaiah World in the 131st pick leaves edge rusher, cornerback and other spots for later.
Pick135
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in pick 135 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick161
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner at pick No. 161 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jeremiah Wright
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Wright went about where he belonged in the 209th overall pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Zxavian Harris
By-the-book stuff, Zxavian Harris at slot 214 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick216
Rnd6
Robert Spears-Jennings
A wild overpay on Robert Spears-Jennings in No. 216, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Raylen Wilson
They paid sticker price for Raylen Wilson in Round 7, Pick 8, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237
Rnd7
Barion Brown
A real head-scratcher, Barion Brown in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
