Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on McCaffrey: B+.

When a board-topper like Luke McCaffrey slides to the 184th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Steelers did not. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Steelers indulged a want in Paul while a need in quarterback, edge rusher and other spots stayed open. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Davis has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Circle this one: Adonai Mitchell at the 51st pick is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick84 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 20. Quarterback, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Patrick Paul did not.
Pick98 Rnd3 Tyler Davis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Davis. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick119 Rnd4 Caelen Carson
They will replay Caelen Carson at pick 119 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick158 Rnd5 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau in No. 158 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick178 Rnd6 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki in the 178th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick184 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at the Round 6 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick195 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at the 195th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
