FinkStinger DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureA
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Patriots. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent the 171st pick on Phillip Webb, a name the board had a full 181 spots lower.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick 14 they get a red-zone target to build around. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at slot 38 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick53
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They took Jayden Higgins at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They jumped the gun on Ozzy Trapilo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wilson in the 77th pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick84
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A clean, defensible pick in No. 84 with a little surplus value in Andrew Mukuba. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Trevor Etienne
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trevor Etienne well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
They left a pile of value on the table to take Chase Lundt this early at the 144th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171
Rnd5
Phillip Webb
Phillip Webb at pick No. 171 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick220
Rnd7
Kain Medrano
No drama and no debate, Kain Medrano went about where he belonged in the 220th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick238
Rnd7
Joey Slackman
They talked themselves into Joey Slackman at Round 7, Pick 22, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
