FutureC-
Larceny in slot 201 lands the Lions a D-, Hopper and all. Somebody took the Lions to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Vaki to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Hopper falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
No edge and no loss on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in No. 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick40
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
A tidy little value on Darius Robinson in Round 2, Pick 8, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick61
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in the 61st pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick72
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 72 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick73
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 73rd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
A reasonable price with a little left over, Matt Goncalves in pick 111. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick164
Rnd5
Sione Vaki
They reached into another round for Sione Vaki, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick201
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 201st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick205
Rnd6
Kalen King
A slide stopped in pick No. 205, with Kalen King worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Owens at pick 249 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick257
Rnd7
Tarheeb Still
Tarheeb Still at slot 257 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
