Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs went off the board in a big way for Stefon Thompson, 32 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

Spending an early pick on defensive back with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The Rice steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
In No. 31 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 2, Pick 31 on T.J. Tampa with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Pick94 Rnd3 Jalen McMillan
Fair-plus on Jalen McMillan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
They barely believed it either: Brenden Rice still on the board at the Round 4 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick159 Rnd5 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at pick 159 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks in pick No. 171 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick175 Rnd5 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at the 175th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick209 Rnd6 Theo Johnson
They paid sticker price for Theo Johnson in Round 6, Pick 34, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick252 Rnd7 Stefon Thompson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Stefon Thompson. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
