Draft Grade — Eagles

FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Eagles and Amegadjie: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Put together, it is a D.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Williams to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The Amegadjie pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
Nice patience on Troy Fautanu, who had no business lasting to the 39th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick40
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 40 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick50
Rnd2
Junior Colson
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent the 50th pick on Junior Colson, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick53
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa at slot 53 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at pick 67 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick68
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
No drama and no debate, Devontez Walker went about where he belonged in No. 68. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick92
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kiran Amegadjie reach the 92nd overall pick and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick98
Rnd3
Blake Corum
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 35, with Blake Corum worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick101
Rnd4
Malik Washington
A tidy little value on Malik Washington in slot 101, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick109
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
No edge and no loss on Mekhi Wingo in No. 109; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick123
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams in the 123rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick127
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at pick 127 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick143
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
A straight-up fair deal on Dallin Holker at pick No. 143, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick146
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick161
Rnd5
Brennan Jackson
Fair-plus on Brennan Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick197
Rnd6
Evan Williams
Evan Williams at the 197th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
