Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
A-
ValueB-

TradesA+
FutureA+
The Bears turned the phones into found money: A-. The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Spending an early pick on safety with interior defensive lineman and quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The Robinson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Getting Sanders where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In the end it comes back to Rome Odunze, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In pick 27 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In the 30th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens at the 35th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick44
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chop Robinson at slot 44 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67
Rnd3
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Nice patience on Ja'Tavion Sanders, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 3. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick72
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson at No. 72 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick78
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Payton Wilson at pick No. 78. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick81
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
They went early on Darius Robinson in pick No. 104, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing at slot 110 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick111
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Khyree Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick112
Rnd4
Marshawn Kneeland
The board had Marshawn Kneeland higher than Round 4, Pick 12, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Jaden Hicks in the 115th overall pick leaves interior defensive lineman and quarterback for later.
Pick118
Rnd4
Isaiah Adams
Isaiah Adams at pick 118 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick122
Rnd4
James Williams
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and quarterback still to address, they spent No. 122 on James Williams, a safety they were not short of.
Pick146
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
They let Kamal Hadden come to them and pounced at the 146th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick173
Rnd5
Curtis Jacobs
By-the-book stuff, Curtis Jacobs at Round 5, Pick 37 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick189
Rnd6
Javon Baker
Javon Baker at the 189th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick193
Rnd6
Ethan Driskell
Ethan Driskell at pick No. 193 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick201
Rnd6
Andrew Raym
Andrew Raym at pick 201 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
