Overall B-

A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

The Steelers bet big and early on Khris Bogle, 31 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The Steelers indulged a want in Powers-Johnson while a need in interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots stayed open. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In No. 25 they get a blindside protector. More want than need.
Pick48 Rnd2 Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at pick 48 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick57 Rnd2 Denzel Burke
By-the-book stuff, Denzel Burke at Round 2, Pick 25 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick80 Rnd3 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A curious use of slot 80. Interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Jackson Powers-Johnson did not.
Pick116 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at pick No. 116 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
A straight-up fair deal on Jaden Hicks at the 121st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194 Rnd6 Khris Bogle
They talked themselves into Khris Bogle at pick No. 194, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick237 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sam Hartman well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
