The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 73 spots for Jacob Dobbs, and value like that does not grow back.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

They banked enough surplus on Williams to cover a lot of smaller sins.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with running back still staring back at them.
