Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureB
Pierce should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Hollin Pierce tumbling to the Cowboys in the Round 5 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick45 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at No. 45 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tate Ratledge in pick 76. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117 Rnd4 Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner in slot 117 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149 Rnd5 Kyle McCord
Taking Kyle McCord in pick No. 149 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick151 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Somehow Hollin Pierce was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 13, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick171 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson slid further than he should have, and the 171st overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick174 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in the 174th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick189 Rnd6 Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 204th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
