Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Steelers kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Steelers started one anyway for Donovan Smith, 114 picks ahead of schedule. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with safety, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jackson.

That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Fair-plus on Derrick Harmon, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at the 67th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick83 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They barely believed it either: Donovan Jackson still on the board at pick No. 83. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick94 Rnd3 Jacob Parrish
A real head-scratcher, Jacob Parrish in Round 3, Pick 30 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
A surprising call. With safety, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Hollin Pierce, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick156 Rnd5 Donovan Smith
A big swing on Donovan Smith at slot 156, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Vernon Broughton
By-the-book stuff, Vernon Broughton at pick 185 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick229 Rnd7 Roc Taylor
Roc Taylor at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
