The Steelers let Carter fall into their laps, and walked away with a C-.

Call it larceny. Barrett Carter sat on the board until pick No. 140, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C-.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Smith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

If Tetairoa McMillan and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Kevin Winston Jr. in pick No. 123 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

Tyler Shough at the 125th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at the 140th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.

Taking Ja'Quinden Jackson in the 245th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
