The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bills and Harden: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Myles Harden, the No. 168 name on the board, stolen at the 255th overall pick. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Owens reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Tampa pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick No. 30 they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot.
Pick74
Rnd3
Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at the 74th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick93
Rnd3
T.J. Tampa
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, T.J. Tampa adds a cornerback and leaves interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick109
Rnd4
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at Round 4, Pick 9 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick128
Rnd4
Malik Mustapha
No edge and no loss on Malik Mustapha in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick133
Rnd4
Javon Baker
Taking Javon Baker in pick 133 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145
Rnd5
Caelen Carson
They robbed the room for Caelen Carson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick160
Rnd5
Isaac Guerendo
The board fumbled Isaac Guerendo all the way to the 160th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick169
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick is a better player than pick No. 169 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178
Rnd6
Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Javontae Jean-Baptiste in Round 6, Pick 3 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick195
Rnd6
Jordan Magee
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick197
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace in pick 197 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick200
Rnd6
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
They will replay Tyrone Tracy Jr. at the 200th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick204
Rnd6
Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea at slot 204 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick207
Rnd6
Anthony Gould
You do not let a wide receiver like Anthony Gould reach No. 207 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick219
Rnd6
Tyler Owens
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Owens in the 219th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick248
Rnd7
Bub Means
Bub Means in Round 7, Pick 28 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick255
Rnd7
Myles Harden
They barely believed it either: Myles Harden still on the board at pick No. 255. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
