FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: A-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Bears shredded theirs for Richard Jibunor. He came off 92 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
Getting Harris where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
The Bears indulged a want in Smith while a need in interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots stayed open. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman in slot 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick54
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at the 68th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jack Sawyer
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 71 with a little surplus value in Jack Sawyer. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick79
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in No. 79 leaves interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots for later.
Pick95
Rnd3
Graham Barton
No drama and no debate, Graham Barton went about where he belonged in the 95th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in No. 104 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
By-the-book stuff, Jaheim Bell at the 121st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick132
Rnd4
Zach Frazier
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick133
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Good price on Donovan Jackson in pick No. 133, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick139
Rnd5
Roman Wilson
Taking Roman Wilson in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick141
Rnd5
Tyler Guyton
They took Tyler Guyton at par in Round 5, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182
Rnd6
Cam Hart
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Hart in slot 182. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick225
Rnd7
Tre Harris
Tre Harris at Round 7, Pick 5 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick228
Rnd7
Richard Jibunor
Richard Jibunor at No. 228 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
