Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Chiefs got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chiefs would have aced it. Brady Cook at No. 257 is 32 spots clear of where he belonged. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. That Edwards pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Colston Loveland
In the 31st overall pick they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jack Sawyer
They did well to land Jack Sawyer in pick 63, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 76 with a little surplus value in Cameron Williams. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93 Rnd3 Deone Walker
A tidy bit of business in the 93rd pick, where Deone Walker graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick95 Rnd3 Devin Neal
Devin Neal at slot 95 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
Value with a capital V on Zy Alexander in Round 4, Pick 19, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick131 Rnd4 Nick Nash
They talked themselves into Nick Nash at pick No. 131, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hollin Pierce. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick157 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
They took Bhayshul Tuten at par in the 157th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick211 Rnd6 Kain Medrano
A conviction pick on Kain Medrano at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick226 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Donovan Edwards at Round 7, Pick 10. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
Nice patience on Desmond Watson, who had no business lasting to No. 251. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick257 Rnd7 Brady Cook
Brady Cook in pick 257 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
