FutureA+
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Beebe left real value on the table behind him. That Corum pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The Cowboys paired the rookies with proven help, Will Hernandez leading the way.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In pick No. 18 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value.
Pick35
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 3 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick56
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick65
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A premium they did not need to pay, Cooper Beebe a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Junior Colson
No edge and no loss on Junior Colson in pick 75; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Blake Corum
A quiet steal in No. 87: Blake Corum for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick104
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at slot 104 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
No drama and no debate, Justin Eboigbe went about where he belonged in the 122nd pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick124
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at No. 124 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick174
Rnd5
Michael Barrett
They went early on Michael Barrett in pick No. 174, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick212
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jase McClellan. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick245
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at the 245th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
