FutureA+
The Cardinals lost the trade table, and the C- tells the story. Nobody had Carter Bradley this high, and it is not close. The Cardinals reached 106 spots to get him at the 245th overall pick. It washes out to a C-, no better and no worse.
Landing Baker that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In pick 26 they get a lockdown presence outside. More want than need.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A reach on Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 35; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick66
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Somehow Xavier Legette was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 2, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick71
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
They liked Braden Fiske enough to skip the value, taking him in the 71st pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick105
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in the 105th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick137
Rnd5
Darius Robinson
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 1, with Darius Robinson worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick147
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161
Rnd5
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in the 161st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick188
Rnd6
Chau Smith-Wade
They barely believed it either: Chau Smith-Wade still on the board at the 188th pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick190
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Roger Rosengarten at slot 190 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick203
Rnd6
Aki Ogunbiyi
No drama and no debate, Aki Ogunbiyi went about where he belonged in pick No. 203. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick216
Rnd6
Eric Watts
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Eric Watts in pick 216, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick221
Rnd7
Trevor Keegan
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevor Keegan. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick222
Rnd7
Jeremy Flax
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jeremy Flax this early at No. 222. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick224
Rnd7
JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at pick No. 224 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick226
Rnd7
Javon Baker
Taking Javon Baker in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick231
Rnd7
Zion Logue
Zion Logue in pick 231 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick233
Rnd7
Blake Watson
Blake Watson at the 233rd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick236
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at slot 236 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick243
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
A reach for Matthew Jones in the 243rd pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick245
Rnd7
Carter Bradley
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carter Bradley in Round 7, Pick 25, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick251
Rnd7
Aaron Frost
Aaron Frost at pick 251 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
