Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall

Penix Jr. is the plan now, and the Falcons grade out a D. Somebody took the Falcons to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Whatever Michael Penix Jr. becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. It is not that Jones is a bad player; it is that the Falcons had louder needs to answer first.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Lassiter to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Michael Penix Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick13
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In pick No. 13 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick47
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson is a better player than the 47th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick57
Rnd2
Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac at slot 57 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter in the 58th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick79
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Cade Stover at Round 3, Pick 15 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
A tidy bit of business in No. 89, where Marshawn Kneeland graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick94
Rnd3
Malik Washington
They took Malik Washington at par in pick 94, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves in the 112th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
A curious use of the 122nd pick. Running back and linebacker needed the pick; a cornerback in Elijah Jones did not.
Pick135
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
By-the-book stuff, Ainias Smith at Round 4, Pick 35 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
