FutureA+
The Falcons did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Falcons took Desmond Evans at No. 255, roughly 59 spots before his name belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Landing Hardy that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
No drama and no debate, Chop Robinson went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick52
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 20 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at pick 89 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jordan Travis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Travis. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in No. 103 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick110
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
A reach on Justin Eboigbe in the 110th overall pick; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Pick120
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni is a better player than pick 120 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick127
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at pick No. 127 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick142
Rnd5
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
No edge and no loss on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in Round 5, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181
Rnd6
Zakhari Franklin
A big swing on Zakhari Franklin at slot 181, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189
Rnd6
David Ugwoegbu
They talked themselves into David Ugwoegbu at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Pick201
Rnd6
Darius Muasau
A wild overpay on Darius Muasau in the 201st pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick204
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Christian Jones at the 204th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick236
Rnd7
Dylan McMahon
By-the-book stuff, Dylan McMahon at No. 236 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick241
Rnd7
Donell Harris Jr.
They reached a country mile for Donell Harris Jr. at No. 241, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy in slot 245 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick255
Rnd7
Desmond Evans
Desmond Evans in pick 255 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
