Draft Grade — Packers
Overall D-
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Packers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 97 spots for Frank Gore Jr., and value like that does not grow back. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman still on the board.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Tyler Nubin
In No. 20 they get a ballhawk on the back end. Need was not the driver here.
Pick39 Rnd2 Javon Foster
They paid up for Javon Foster at the 39th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick43 Rnd2 Quinyon Mitchell
They went early on Quinyon Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 11, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 75 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick82 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. It fills a real need, too.
Pick94 Rnd3 AJ Barner
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for AJ Barner. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick98 Rnd3 Junior Colson
They talked themselves into Junior Colson at the 98th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick111 Rnd4 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker in Round 4, Pick 11 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120 Rnd4 Gabriel Murphy
No edge and no loss on Gabriel Murphy in slot 120; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
A curious use of pick 131. Interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a safety in Tykee Smith did not.
Pick135 Rnd4 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim in pick No. 135 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick157 Rnd5 Frank Gore Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 5 slot, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick162 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Moore at the 162nd pick, value and slot in agreement. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick163 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
They reached a country mile for Kamal Hadden at No. 163, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick179 Rnd6 Tre Harris
The board had Tre Harris higher than the Round 6 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick189 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick No. 189 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
