Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesC-
FutureB-
The Bills won the night they stopped Ceaser from sliding. Grade: B-. Somebody in slot 162 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bills sat still while Nelson Ceaser, the No. 143 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 28th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson slipping to slot 60 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Cam Hart
Nothing to complain about; Cam Hart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick129
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ainias Smith. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick143
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at the 143rd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick159
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in Round 5, Pick 23, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick162
Rnd5
Nelson Ceaser
Circle this one: Nelson Ceaser at pick No. 162 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198
Rnd6
Myles Harden
A quiet steal in No. 198: Myles Harden for less than the market said. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick202
Rnd6
Kendall Milton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kendall Milton at the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick206
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Cornelius Johnson in the 206th overall pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick246
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens in pick No. 246 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
