Draft Grade — Dolphins

FutureA+
The Dolphins left with their quarterback, and a D+ to match. The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jaylen Reed at pick 155 regardless, 33 picks early.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Getting Collins where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Good price on Xavier Watts in No. 48, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick72
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
A quiet steal in the 72nd overall pick: Alfred Collins for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
They did well to land Darius Alexander in the 98th pick, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116
Rnd4
Xavier Restrepo
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Restrepo at Round 4, Pick 14 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick119
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cam Skattebo in slot 119. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick135
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mello Dotson. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick150
Rnd5
Mitchell Evans
Fair-plus on Mitchell Evans, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylen Reed. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick224
Rnd7
Howard Cross III
Howard Cross III in pick 224 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
Jermari Harris in the 231st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick253
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
Nothing to complain about; LaJohntay Wester went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
